County Teams Knockout 2008 / 2009

The major green-pointed teams-of-four championship with matches played privately. The winners will represent the county in the Pachabo. There is also a Plate event for first round losers, so no excuse for not entering this one!

This is a level 3 event. Green points won will be direct credited with the EBU. Results may be notified using the result sheet at http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/djh1/countyko_result_form.html and sent to Dave Harrison or with the same information via email.

Teams eliminated in their first match are automatically entered for the Plate at no additional charge, unless they specify otherwise when the team entry is made or on their first result sheet.

In each match, the first named team is at home. An undergraduate team drawn away who would have difficulty in reaching the away venue has the option of requesting that the match be played in Cambridge (and to provide a venue if necessary).

The home team is responsible for organising a suitable venue, preferably consisting of two separate playing rooms, and for providing equipment (tables, boards, bidding boxes and score cards) and refreshments (tea/coffee and biscuits would suffice).

If team captains are unable to agree on a date, the Tournament Organiser should be informed. He may permit a later date agreeable to both captains. Failing that, matches must be played at Cambridge Bridge Club in the week following the latest specified date for the round. NOTE that this may prove difficult if the date coincides with a special Cambridge Club event. Please check with the Cambridge Club Secretary before arranging matches there. A team failing to attend will be eliminated by default.

Rounds up to and including the semi-final will be 24 boards, or 32 if both captains agree. The final will be of 32 boards, or 48 if both captains agree. If the scores are level at the end of a match, extra boards must be played (4 if the match was over 24 boards, 6 if 32 boards were played, 8 if 48 boards were played) playing straight through against one opposing pair. If the scores are still level, change opponents and play further boards, and repeat this process if necessary until the tie is broken.

Predealt boards, with hand records, can be made available for a charge by request to the Tournament Organiser, giving as much notice as possible, and stating the number of boards required. Both teams must agree if such boards are to be used.

Teams may contain up to 6 players, only 4 of whom may play in any one match. Additional players, up to the maximum, may be added at any time but must be registered with the Tournament Organiser before playing in a match.
